The residents of the state of Massachusetts and its leadership, including Gov. Charlie Baker, are being mocked for what some consider an extreme reaction to the transport of 50 illegal immigrants to the wealthy island of Martha’s Vineyard.
Baker has reportedly deployed the state’s National Guard to assist in transporting migrants to the military base on Cape Cod, just a day after they were delivered to Martha’s Vineyard by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
NBC reporter Emilie Ikeda reported that 125 National Guardsmen were deployed to assist the 50 migrants in finding their new accommodations at Joint Base Cape Cod.

“Today, the Baker-Polito Administration announced new shelter and humanitarian supports at Joint Base Cape Cod (JBCC) for the approximately 50 migrants who arrived in Martha’s Vineyard this week,” the press release began. “The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) is coordinating efforts among state and local officials to ensure access to food, shelter, and essential services for these men, women, and children. Governor Charlie Baker also plans to activate up to 125 members of the Massachusetts National Guard as part of this relief effort.”
Political pundit Steven Crowder shared a video of the migrants being loaded onto busses, saying, “The left loves illegal immigrants until you drop them off in their cities. Hypocrites.”

Ian Miles Cheong posted a picture of a sign in the affluent neighborhood reading, “We stand with immigrants,” and “refugees,” and pointed out that that seemed to be in stark contrast to the military personnel sent to escort the migrants off the island.
This sign is in Martha's Vineyard. Note that they "Stand with immigrants, with refugees," etc.

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich commented on the phenomenon, saying, “1100 illegal migrants arrive in El Paso EVERY DAY! Biden Socialists ignore the crisis and lie that ‘the border is secure.’ Gov Desantis flies 55 illegal migrants to Marthas Vineyard and rich Biden big government socialists panic and demand help. Hypocrisy personified.”

The hypocrisy of the alleged housing crisis being suffered on the island was also pointed out by one user who said, “Marthas Vineyard has 17k permanent residents & 200k in summer. National Guard activated by Humanitarian Emergency to bus 50 illegal immigrants off the island. Local residents say they have no infrastructure. Currently 60 rentals on AirBNB.”

“The population of 20k on Martha’s Vineyard says they can’t care for 50 people? Really?” questioned one user on Twitter. “There are little communities in Texas that size and smaller that have had to deal with thousands. Joe flies thousands of illegals around the country in the dead of night. So is he a trafficker?

The response to the migrants has been a frustrated one by many, including NBC news who reportedly posted a quote from their NBCLatino affiliate which equated the transport of migrants to Martha’s Vineyard to taking out the trash.
“Florida Gov. DeSantis sending asylum-seekers to Martha’s Vineyard is like ‘me taking my trash out and just driving to different areas where I live and just throwing my trash there,’ a founding member of a foundation which helps refugees says.” This quote is from a screenshot of a now-deleted tweet by NBC News.
