According to multiple reports, Major League Baseball (MLB) seems to be moving farther away from its historical identity as a professional sport and America’s national pastime, and is instead quickly becoming a propaganda machine for a radical leftist agenda.
A recent report by the National Review reveals that 20 MLB teams, possibly more, are promoting and funding organizations that support gender reassignment procedures of children as part of the league’s push for what it labels “inclusion.”
The report also reveals that 29 teams, almost the entirety of the 30-team league, held a “pride night” at their home ballpark sometime during the 2022 season. The only outlier of that group is the Texas Rangers. During these “special” nights, many of the teams promote organizations through advertisement and donation opportunities, that in turn actively participate in gender surgeries on minors.
Additionally, the Major League Baseball website now hosts a social justice page titled “Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion.” The site is partially still under constriction, with a note reading more content will be available coming soon.
The name sounds innocent enough, but upon a brief study, readers will quickly realize it serves to promote the radical ideology of intersectionality, critical race theory, and backhanded condemnation of non-minorities.
Fans of the game cannot ignore the possibility that this deviation from the league’s original intent, to foster competition and entertainment at the professional level, may be contributing to a decline in the overall interest of the MLB, where viewership and fan attendance levels have steadily dropped over the last several decades.

What are the implications of this report for Christians? How should the Christ-follower respond as baseball follows the culture at large in lock-stepping with the radical left machine?
There are several directions to go with this, but I believe there is a simple lesson to be found in this report, and it centers around the question of idolatry. Every human being has to answer the following question: Whom do you serve? Who is your god? We will all worship something; the question is, what will it be?
Major League Baseball has chosen to bow the knee at the altar of what it deems “inclusion.” The problem is that the leftist definition of inclusion is misleading. In the wave of racial unrest that overtook the country following the death of George Floyd, “inclusion” brings with it a sinister message of condemnation for whomever the leaders of the movement believe should be condemned. More often than not, those who are condemned and not included in the spirit of “inclusivity” are those who are white, heterosexual, Christian, conservative, and/or anyone else who would dare criticize the radical agenda.
The league and the culture at large have bowed the knee to this false idol. They worship a god who cannot respond, cannot hear them, and is neither good nor sovereign, nor even alive.
The Old Testament is full of examples of the result of those who chose to follow after a false god. False idols do not satisfy and lead to ultimate destruction.
True satisfaction and purpose, what many of these revolutionaries are seeking, is only found in Jesus Christ, the God of the universe who, instead of placing blame on others for societal ills, took the punishment for sin on Himself to save a people who fell woefully short of deserving salvation.
Christian, do not be like the world. We must bow the knee to no other than the God of the Bible, the One True and Living God, who is also the God who saves.
You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve. – Matthew 4:10
