House Democrats moved to block a resolution that would have condemned violence against pro-life centers and churches.

The move was led by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, according to Breitbart News,  an act consistent with her political stance in support of federal protection for abortion rights.

The measure, Resolution 1233, was introduced by Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA).  Democrats in the House refused to even vote on the measure that would have condemned arson, vandalism, and threats against pro-life organizations and religious groups, according to LifeSite News

The attacks on these centers began early in May after a draft of the Supreme Court ruling that eventually overturned the landmark abortion rights case, Roe v. Wade, was leaked to POLITICO. The resolution,  shot down by Democrats, also asked President Joe Biden’s administration to take decisive action against the rising violence.

According to their website, LifeSiteNews has recorded more than 50 reports of arson and/or vandalism since the Supreme Court overturned Roe on June 24, and more than 100 since a draft ruling was leaked in May.

“This has gotten out of hand,” Johnson said on the House floor. “Radical leftists were emboldened by the inaction of this body in the aftermath of the leaked opinion, and now they’ve targeted their violence against the very groups that care for women and their unborn children in their most vulnerable moments. It’s unconscionable.”

The Louisiana legislator blasted Democratic leaders for ignoring the violence and threats made by extreme abortion supporters on their side of the abortion debate. He criticized House Democrat leaders for their inaction even after the U.S. Senate unanimously enacted a bill to bolster protection for Supreme Court justices and their families. He said that House leaders only acted after Justice Brett Kavanaugh was the subject of an assassination attempt.

Johnson asserted the resolution is “another opportunity to push back against the mob” as abortion supporters continue their threats and violence: “This goes on and on,” Johnson said. “I’ve got pages and pages of these. It’s out of control.”

He continued: “America’s care pregnancy centers provide absolutely essential services in all 50 states. … they serve millions of women every year. They’re supported by over 10,000 medical professionals. When will this body stand up against the mob? When will we restore law and order?” he asked. “Our side is ready to act. We have an obligation and responsibility to do it.”

Democrats’ decision to not condemn violence by abortion activists caused pro-life groups to push back, accusing Democrats of encouraging violence. Tuesday, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America spoke out on social media about the issue.

“By remaining silent on these attacks, Democrats are pouring fuel on the fire and encouraging more threats and violence,” the pro-life group wrote on Twitter, sharing photos of several recent vandalisms.

In response to the apprehension over the abortion decision, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security warned of ongoing “domestic violence” aimed at churches, religiously affiliated pro-life organizations, judges, and lawmakers in a report released in June.
