In the current sports sphere, very few sports personalities will openly support conservative values for fear of being cancelled or labeled as a bigot. Last weekend, University of Michigan head football head coach Jim Harbaugh bucked that trend with a bold defense of the unborn.

In the wake of heightened tensions surrounding the issue of abortion following SCOTUS’s decision that overturned Roe v. Wade, Harbaugh joined the discussion at a pro-life event in Michigan.

“I believe in having the courage to let the unborn be born,” Harbaugh stated. “I love life. I believe in having a loving care and respect for life and death. My faith and my science are what drives these beliefs in me.”

Harbaugh then quoted Jeremiah 1:5 affirming the biblical view that the children in the womb are uniquely made and individuals.

Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I set you apart. I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.

Harbaugh is reportedly a devout Catholic. Many conservative Catholics and evangelicals alike are overjoyed to see a man who claims fidelity to the Catholic faith back up his claims with support, unlike the example set by President Joe Biden and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

Harbaugh’s passion has sometimes brought controversy, especially on the gridiron when, as a consummate players’ coach both in college and his time in the NFL, he is often seen beet red from screaming at the referees for making a call with which he disagreed.

In the fight for life, this passion may be just what the pro-life movement needs, especially from a figure in the sports sphere with Harbaugh’s reach.
