Pope Francis verbalized agreement this week with the frustration that many conservative Catholics and evangelical Protestants have felt towards President Joe Biden’s apparent hypocrisy in what he claims to believe and what his policies support.

The pope spoke in an interview on July 12 concerning the recent pleas from many conservatives to bar President Biden from receiving the sacrament of communion and consider him an apostate for his recent, active support of abortion. Though Francis did not publicly condemn the president, he did infer that Biden’s line of thinking is “incoherent” and would require him to justify it with his priest.

Francis said in regard to Biden’s apparent hypocrisy, “Let [Biden] talk to his pastor about that incoherence.”

Francis has come under heavy criticism from conservative Catholics for his seemingly progressive policies and comments, including a refusal to condemn homosexuality as a sin.

Among these critiques is his lack of condemnation for Catholic politicians who support infanticide, which reaches beyond the president and includes House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, among others.

The Pope, however, has continued to publicly condemn abortion as morally reprehensible.

“In this we have to be scientific, see what science tells us today. Science today and any book on embryology, the one our medical students study, tells you that 30 days after conception there is DNA and the laying out already of all the organs. It’s a human life – that’s science. The moral question is whether it is right to take a human life to solve a problem,” Pope Francis said recently.

In other news from the Vatican, the pope said in an interview earlier this month that the rumors of him retiring soon were false.
