In a development that will make historians take a second look, an elementary school in Colorado is holding a racially segregated playground night exclusively for families of color.

Centennial Elementary School in Denver made an announcement on its school’s website and also reflected it on its sign on campus that Dec. 8 would be designated as an evening for families of color only to use the school playground. The event appears to be an attempt by liberal educational leaders to bring minority families together in a spirit of racial equity, but it inadvertently promotes racial segregation.

Not only does it promote racial segregation, but it is also illegal, breaking Article IX of the Colorado state constitution which says:

Nor shall any distinction or classification of pupils be made on account of race or color.

This was highlighted by law professor Dave Kopel of Denver University, who wrote on Twitter:

Sources indicate that the event was postponed due to COVID-19 concerns, but it appears organizers are attempting to reschedule it for 2022, despite its illegal and racially discriminatory nature.
