Thursday saw several news developments in the NFL, both on and off the field.
Off the field, Tampa Buccaneers wide receiver Antonio Brown was suspended by the league on Thursday for allegedly falsifying his COVID-19 vaccination card. Sources claim that Brown had obtained a false identification over the summer. The Buccaneers’ veteran receiver will miss the next three games, as Tampa Bay is gearing up for a postseason push and a shot at the number 1 seed in the NFC playoffs. Another Tampa player, second-string safety Mike Edwards, was suspended for three games for the same reason.
The NFL and NFLPA released a join statement reaffirming their push for players to receive the jab, saying,
The NFL-NFLPA jointly reinforce their commitment and further emphasize the importance of strict adherence to the protocols to protect the well-being of everyone associated with the NFL.
In other NFL news, the Dallas Cowboys traveled to Louisiana to take on the New Orleans Saints at the Superdome in a Thursday night clash with heavy playoff implications. The matchup pitted Dallas gunslinger Dak Prescott against the former New Orleans utility player and now-starting quarterback Taysom Hill.
Dallas outlasted New Orleans 27-17 to improve to 8-4, keeping a solid grip on the top spot in the NFC East and staying in the hunt for the NFC’s top seed. Dallas backup running back Tony Pollard outran starter Ezekiel Elliot, rushing for 71 yards and a touchdown on only 7 carries. His touchdown came on a brilliant 58-yard run in the 3rd quarter.
