An increasing amount of COVID-19 cases amongst fully vaccinated athletes, celebrities, and lay people has shown that the vaccines on the market are at best inconsistently effective and at worst largely ineffective at stopping the transaction and transmission of the virus.

Sports reporters are keeping a close eye on NBA star LeBron James, the prolific forward for the LA Lakers and a self-proclaimed political expert and cultural influencer. Earlier this week, James was placed on the NBA’s COVID-19 injury list, despite the fact that he was fully inoculated in September. As a result, James missed the Lakers’ Tuesday night contest against the Sacramento Kings.

Obviously, this does not necessarily mean that James has contracted the virus, as that information is disputed at this time. Some sources claim James has contracted COVID-19, while others are claiming the NBA did this as a precautionary measure because James came into contact with someone who had the virus.

Sources, including other Lakers players, say James is not experiencing symptoms and appears 100% healthy. James himself seems to think that someone in the NBA is out to get him off the Lakers roster for a time. He posted on Twitter after the news broke:

Regardless of the truth behind his placement on the COVID-19 list, James will miss at least several games, according to league reports.

For Lakers, this is a huge blow, as the team is only a game over .500 and trying to return to its 2020 pandemic-delayed championship season form. Head coach Frank Vogel addressed the media concerning the situation, saying:

Obviously, it’s a huge loss. It’s disappointing. We just want the best for him right now. That’s where our thoughts are. And we have a next man up mindset…Hopefully, this is something that’s short term. We’ll see.
