Despite the NBA’s incessant push for complete COVID-19 vaccination of all players, coaches, and personnel, some NBA players have exercised their right to refuse the shot. At the NBA’s media day this past week, several players, including Golden State Warriors forward Andrew Wiggins, were pushed by reporters to divulge their reasons for refusing the shot.

Jonathan Isaac, power forward for the Brooklyn Nets, is one of the 40 players who have not yet been vaccinated. When he was asked why he has not been vaccinated, he gave a profound, well-thought response:

I have nothing but the utmost respect for every healthcare worker and person in Orlando and all across the world that have worked tirelessly to keep us safe … I thank God and I’m grateful that I live in a society where vaccines are possible, and we can protect ourselves and have the means to protect ourselves. But with that being said, it is my belief that the vaccine status of every person should be their own choice. Completely up to them without bullying, without being pressured, without being forced into doing so. I’m not ashamed to say that I’m uncomfortable with taking the vaccine at this time.

He then went into further detail:

Isaac could have responded harshly or angrily, especially considering the violation of personal privacy that these reporters committed. Instead, he gave a gracious answer and represented a large community in the nation off citizens who desire freedom over their health choices.
