Thirty-three separate incidents of alleged sexual abuse involving “Unaccompanied Alien Children” (UAC) under the care of the Department of Health and Human Services occurred within the first month of the Biden presidency, according to documents recently obtained by Judicial Watch through a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit.
The documents also cite 12 cases of physical abuse between staff members or foster parents and underage immigrant children or between UACs themselves.
According to individual case files, the incidents occurred between Jan. 21 and Feb. 26 this year. Each incident is linked to government-contracted “voluntary agencies” housing unaccompanied migrant children. Five of the reported sexual abuse allegations took place at Sunny Glen Children’s Home New Day Resiliency Center.
“These documents show that not only are there shocking reports of sexual abuse occurring in shelters for unaccompanied children, but that there is violence among the UACs themselves,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton in a statement to Fox News. “It is no surprise that Biden administration’s enabling of human trafficking has resulted in violence and the abuse of children.”
Reports of widespread sexual abuse at border shelters expose the increasingly stark reality faced by a growing number of unaccompanied migrant children in the U.S. as the humanitarian crisis at the border worsens.
Earlier this month, Axios reported that the government has lost contact with thousands of migrant children released from its custody.
According to the The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ website, the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) has a “zero-tolerance policy for all forms of sexual abuse, sexual harassment, and inappropriate sexual behavior at all care provider facilities that house unaccompanied alien children (UAC).
In February, 50 House Republicans signed a letter warning the Biden administration of human trafficking by cartels who encourage illegal immigrants to bring children, even if they are not their own, into the U.S. as insurance against deportation in the event that they are captured in accordance with President Biden’s “catch and release” policy.
Since taking office in January, the Biden administration has halted deportations of illegal immigrants, refused to uphold rules that govern Customs and Border Patrol, and dismantled former President Trump’s Remain in Mexico policy.
Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, revealed over the weekend that upwards of 12,000 Haitian migrants were released into the country from an overcrowded camp. He did not specify how many of this number were minors.
