The YouVersion Bible app, one of the most recognized and utilized Bible-reading software tools in the world, is seeking to fulfill the Great Commission by providing a translation of the Bible to 95% of the world’s population.
The YouVersion team announced earlier this month that they are partnering with other outreach ministries to reach this goal. Additionally, the team hopes to make available a translation of the New Testament to over 99.9% of the world’s languages, literally bringing the gospel to the ends of the earth.
In a world where technology is often abused for sinful reasons, this is a wonderful reminder of God’s sovereignty and goodness over technology. Where biblical translators once spent years reaching remote people groups with the Bible, it is now attainable at the click of a button through technology.
Bobby Grunewald, founder of YouVersion, said of the lofty goal,
Technology gives momentum around Bible translations because it was very difficult to translate because people who speak these languages live in different areas and tribes. Now methodologies have changed partly due to technology, as well as more donors get even more excited about this. The willingness of the leaders of translations ministries to put aside logos and brands to get work done and completed is what has led to these advancements. This is a big, audacious and aggressive goal, but this is a God-centered plan that has brought so much unity and faith. And when there is great unity and faith, God answers.
Hopefully, the Lord will provide great fruit from this prayerful effort. Indeed, He promises His people that His Word does not come back void.
