The NFL’s second week was filled with several exciting games, but the most dramatic occurred on Sunday night, in a battle between two former MVP quarterbacks.

The Baltimore Ravens defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 36-35 in a thrilling game to conclude Sunday’s NFL action. Raven’s QB Lamar Jackson, the 2019 NFL MVP, flipped into the end zone on a 4th and 1 run with a little over 3 minutes left in the game to complete the Baltimore comeback after being down by 11 at the beginning of the 4th quarter. Jackson said it felt good to “get the monkey off of his back” as this was the first time he had defeated Patrick Mahomes, the league’s 2018 MVP, and the Chiefs in 4 tries.

The young superstars both shined in prime time. Mahomes threw for 343 yards and 3 touchdowns, but it was not enough. Jackson overcame two ugly interceptions in the first quarter, one of which was returned for a touchdown. He threw one touchdown pass and ran for two more, including the game-winner late in the 4th quarter. Jackson threw for a total of 239 yards and rushed for 107 more.

In other action around the league the defending Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers thumped the Falcons 48-25 to go to 2-0 on the year and the Raiders defeated the Steelers 26-17, also giving them a 2-0 record. The Arizona Cardinals edged out the Minnesota Vikings 34-33, and the Dallas Cowboys defeated the L.A. Chargers 20-17. The most lopsided contest of the weekend came at the hands of the Buffalo Bills, who thrashed the Miami Dolphins, 35-0.

Week two concluded with an age-old divisional matchup between the Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers, as Aaron Rodgers hoped to bounce back after an ugly week one loss to the New Orleans Saints. Rodgers has owned the Lions throughout his career, and he continued to do so on Monday night, leading Green Bay to dominating 35-17 win over Detroit.
