The state of Maine is instituting draconic orders for health care workers regarding the COVID-19 shot, and health care workers in the state who believe in personal freedom are fighting back.
The state recently removed religious exemption as a legal reason to deny inoculation. Governor Janet Mills issued a mandate requiring all health care workers to receive the shot by a deadline of October 1, 2021. Health care workers in the state, represented by religious freedom organization Liberty Counsel, filed a lawsuit at the end of August to fight for their right to make an informed medical decision without the threat of termination of employment.
The suit states:
If Plaintiffs do not comply with the vaccine mandate, they will be terminated and deprived of their ability to feed their families. No American should be faced with this unconscionable choice, especially the health care heroes who have served us admirably for the entire duration of COVID-19…There can be no dispute that Maine is required to abide by federal law and provide protections to employees who have sincerely held religious objections to the COVID-19 vaccines.
Acting under the guise of “health and safety,” the state of Maine and Gov. Mills are severely overstepping their boundaries and threatening a foundational freedom for American citizens. Hopefully, these health care workers, under representation from Liberty Counsel, will gain justice and protection from these outrageous orders. This is a case with dramatic implications in the continued fight for religious freedom in America.
Mat Staver, founder of Liberty Counsel, said recently,
These health care heroes ran to the front lines to protect us. We will fight to protect them.
