Two people have died and 17 remain missing in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Fred that brought flooding to western North Carolina on Tuesday. The storm also took out at least 10 bridges and damaged thousands of homes and businesses. Search and rescue efforts continue as the east coast braces for another storm brewing in the Atlantic.
Tropical Storm Henri is strengthening off the coast of North Carolina and it is believed that it will turn into a hurricane shortly. Analysts project that it will make landfall in Long Island, New York and southern New England on Sunday evening, but the exact path is yet to be determined.
The winds in Henri have reached sustain speeds of 75 miles per hour and appear to be gradually increasing as the storm moves north up the coast. The areas that are expected to be most impacted are under hurricane and tropical storm warnings and residents have already cleaned out stores preparing for the worst.
The storm is expected to hit the Hamptons area which is where many of the rich and famous call home. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio also tweeted out a warning to New Yorkers:
We are continuing to monitor Tropical Storm Henri. Here’s the latest:
-New York City is under a Tropical Storm Warning. We expect strong winds and rain to begin late tonight and last through tomorrow.
