According to an intelligence report from RHIPTO Norwegian Center for Global Analyses, a Norwegian intelligence agency, the Taliban are now actively seeking out Afghan citizens who assisted the US over the last 20 years. The four page report was obtained by Reuters, although the veracity of the report could not be determined. The report reproduced a letter that had been sent to an Afghani national who had assisted the US and its allies. The letter threatened,

If you do not report to the commission, your family members will be arrested instead, and you are responsible for this. You and your family members will be treated based on Sharia law.

Based on various reports, the Taliban has begun to track down and arrest former Afghani intelligence and security officers. These actions come in stark contrast to the Taliban’s previous statements that they are seeking to establish a peaceful and inclusive new nation. Publicly, the Taliban indicated that they would not seek revenge against former enemies, but it is looking more and more like this was a lie in an attempt to generate good press.

The US is currently working as quickly as possible to evacuate US citizens and Afghani individuals who assisted the military in the past. Due to the quick collapse of the Afghan government and the apparent lack of a cohesive civilian withdrawal plan, many Americans and Afghani allies are stuck behind enemy lines. These allies face increased danger, the longer that they remain stranded, with the Taliban seeking their whereabouts.
