Senator Rand Paul (KY-R) challenged Dr. Fauci on the purpose of wearing masks post-vaccination and/or post-infection in a Senate hearing on Thursday.

Paul called the wearing of masks after one had received a vaccine or had been infected merely “theater,” to which Fauci quipped back, “Here we go again with the theater.”

Paul, who is also an ophthalmologist, pointed to medical studies that showed no significant numbers of reinfection, and then prompted Fauci to site studies that supported his claim that masks should continue to be worn after natural infection or a vaccine. Fauci focused his response on the unknown variables that the new strands bring.

Paul asserted, “You’re telling everybody to wear a mask whether they’ve had infection or had a vaccine. What I’m saying is they have immunity and everybody agrees they have immunity.”
