On Friday, Senator Lindsey Graham, head of the Senate Judiciary Committee, released 11 interviews from the “Crossfire Hurricane” investigation, highlighting incompetence or outright corruption in the leadership that probed Trump’s connection with Russian officials.
In a statement Senator Graham said:
I consider the Crossfire Hurricane investigation a massive system failure by senior leadership, but not representative of the dedicated, hardworking patriots who protect our nation every day at Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Justice.
The documents further reveal that the FBI knew Christopher Steele was a dubious source of information, while misrepresenting Steele to the FISA court as trustworthy. Steele was the author of the infamous Trump Dossier used to initiate the investigation.
Graham also accused the FBI of lying to the FISA court. The Senator added he “will be pursuing reforms of counterintelligence investigations and warrant applications, and hope that my Democratic and Republican colleagues can find common ground on these matters.”
The South Carolina Senator has met criticism for the timing of the release, with some conservative voices accusing him of sitting on relevant information until the election was over. Lou Dobbs of Fox Business said Graham was gatekeeping information from the American people and John Solomon of Just the News speculated Friday’s dump may have been an attempt to undermine future declassification attempts by President Trump.
Meanwhile, voices on the left are attacking the move as Graham’s attempt to stay in President Trump’s good graces, with #LindseyGrahamIsATraitor trending on Twitter.
