Hundreds of injured Palestinians and foreign passport holders poured across the Gaza border into Egypt yesterday, marking the first time Egypt has opened its borders since the war began.
Limited evacuations continued today under the Qatar-brokered deal among Israel, Egypt, Hamas and the United States. It’s a deal primarily aimed at helping foreign nationals escape the region.
Under the deal, at least 300 people left yesterday, and around 600 were approved to leave today including 400 Americans. Egypt says it expects to take in up to 7,000 people from Gaza over the next several days.
Up until now, Egypt has been reluctant to welcome refugees amid concerns that it would allow Hamas and other terror groups to enter its borders. Israel is currently vetting everyone leaving Gaza to make sure that doesn’t happen.
