Hundreds of civilians are still exiting Gaza into Egypt through the Rafah Crossing. Thankfully, American citizens are in that group as well.
On Wednesday, at least 300 foreign nationals crossed into Egypt in the first major departure. On Thursday, Gaza’s border security approved 600 more foreign passport holders and dual national Palestinians to exit the country. Within that list was about 400 Americans.
Not everyone evacuated right away on Thursday, but they have been approved to leave.
As for who has already left Gaza, President Biden said Thursday that the United States has confirmed 74 U.S. citizens with dual citizenship who exited. Biden made the announcement before meeting with the President of the Dominican Republic.
That number has since been revised to 79. The State Department has also confirmed that it reached out to at least 1,000 family members of those who are still trapped in Gaza.
