On Tuesday, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Secretary of State Antony Blinken testified before the Senate Appropriations Committee.

Both officials were there to convince Congress to continue providing aid and funding to Israel in its war with Hamas and Ukraine in its war with Russia. Each spoke of the dangers that could happen with no US support.

However, the testimony was perhaps more memorable for the crowd in the room. During Blinken’s opening remarks, he was interrupted by protesters in the crowd six times.

A group of people in the room sat with their hands raised and painted red, attempting to say the US has the blood of the Gazan people on its hands. Others shouted before the Committee to “save Gaza children” and demanded a “ceasefire now.”

The White House has requested $14.3 billion for Israel, $61.4 billion for Ukraine, and $9.1 billion for humanitarian aid in Gaza and elsewhere.
