As the war in Israel rages on, American leadership is desperately trying to keep it contained.

The U.S. is sending a second aircraft carrier to the region in hopes of deterring Iranian proxies, such as Hezbollah in Lebanon, from joining the conflict.  Diplomats from the States are also engaging in back-channel talks with Iran, warning of risks associated with escalation.

At the same time, weekend reports show U.S. officials reaching out to Arab leaders and other nations, including China,  asking for help containing the war.

Meanwhile, American support for Israel remains strong. President Biden told ’60 Minutes” he supports Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s endeavors to wipe out Hamas, though he doesn’t think Israel should occupy Gaza.

Israeli ambassador to the United States, Michael Herzog, tells CNN Israel has no plans to occupy Gaza after the conflict ends.
