Israel has formed an emergency government whose sole aim is to defeat Hamas. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and centrist leader Benny Gantz made the announcement Wednesday.

The newly-formed war cabinet is comprised of the two leaders and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, who vowed to wipe Hamas “off the face of the earth.” Opposition leader Yair Lapid is also welcome to join if he so chooses.

In a joint statement, the party leaders said this new coalition will not take up any unrelated policies or laws. They will be focused entirely on the war.

The unity government will only exist until the end of the war in Gaza, then it will dissolve. Netanyahu and Gantz also agreed that as long as the war is taking place, the prime minister’s controversial push for a judicial overhaul will be on pause.
