Hamas just released its first hostage footage, a video showing 21-year-old Mia Shem, a French-Israeli woman seized by Hamas during its surprise attack last weekend.
The video shows a medical worker treating her injured arm as well as Shem saying, “I am now in Gaza. I only ask that someone can get me back home, as soon as possible. Get us out of here as soon as possible.”
Her mother, Keren Schem, spoke at a press conference yesterday, begging the world to bring her baby back home.
Back in the States, White House spokesman John Kirby called the video despicable. Foreign nationals are believed to be among the hostages, including those from the US, France, Thailand, and Germany.
Hamas is reportedly offering to free all civilian hostages if Israel stops its airstrikes on Gaza. But Gershon Baskin, an Israeli activist who helped secure the release of an Israeli soldier in 2011, is calling their bluff. He said, “I think this is a false message, psychological warfare. It means nothing.”
