Two Israeli-Americans were freed by Hamas on Friday.
Their names are Judith and Natalie Raanan, a mother and daughter from the Chicago area. On Friday, at around 9:30 p.m. local time, they crossed from Gaza into Israel.
The exact reason for the pair’s release is unclear. Hamas says they were freed in response to Qatari mediation. Natalie’s father says both of them are in good health.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken says the U.S. is determined to see the release of every American hostage.
Hamas is still holding captive more than 200 people, including possibly up to 11 Americans. President Joe Biden says the U.S. is pursuing “every avenue” to bring them back home.
