Ukraine is recovering from one of the deadliest attacks in the war so far.
A Russian missile strike killed at least 52 civilians in a small eastern village Thursday. The victims, sadly, included one child.
The missile struck the small town of Hroza during a memorial service honoring a soldier who died in the war. Residents are wondering how the Russians knew about the service and believe it to have been a deliberate attack. Moscow continues to deny targeting civilians in its invasion of Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian forces are widening their breach of Russian defensive lines. The Institute for the Study of War, or ISW, confirmed that Kyiv’s forces are operating armored vehicles behind Russian anti-tank ditch obstacles. The ISW called this “an important sign of progress” for Ukraine.
The attack and the counteroffensive progress both come as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is attending a summit of European leaders, continuing his campaign to shore up support for his country’s fight.
