Border Patrol agents are on high alert.

The FBI is opening an investigation into a plot to gain the home addresses of border agents with the purpose of torturing them and their families.

The Washington Examiner shared a screenshot of a disturbing text message offering to pay $200 for an agent’s address and $1,000 for their mother’s. The message’s author says, “I’ll post us torturing any bp agent you send.”

Border Patrol’s El Paso intelligence sector picked up the message and has since issued a warning to its agents, asking them to “remain cognizant of their surroundings at all times and report any suspicious activity.”

There are suspicions the message was sent by the Mexican drug cartels, but those rumors have yet to be confirmed.
