Justice is being delivered in Virginia, as Gov. Glenn Youngkin has pardoned a Loudoun County father who was convicted of misdemeanors after he stood up for his daughter.
Scott Smith’s daughter was one of the victims in the Loudoun County scandal during which a biological male identified as a female assaulted multiple girls in a high school bathroom. The school’s superintendent then fought to cover up the incident.
Another parent tried to stop Smith’s daughter from speaking up at the meeting about her assault experience. That’s when Smith had enough.
After a verbal spar with that other parent, Smith was charged and convicted of obstruction of justice and disorderly conduct. Two years later, Smith was still in the appeals process when he was notified that he would be completely pardoned.
Still, Smith calls the win bittersweet.
He says he’s thankful for the “off-ramp” the governor gave him, but that he “looked forward to winning this in court.” But ultimately, Smith was concerned he wouldn’t get a “fair shot in court.”
