A second lawsuit has been filed to keep former President Donald Trump off the ballot in 2024, this time in Minnesota.

Just like in Colorado, a liberal group called Free Speech For People is arguing the 14th Amendment disqualifies Trump. They claim the former president encouraged an insurrection on January 6, 2021, and is disqualified from holding office again under Section Three.

The group is also requesting that the Minnesota Secretary of State exclude Trump from the state ballot.

The question of the former president’s eligibility is reportedly being investigated by a top Republican lawyer named Jason Torchinsky. He’s being paid by a nonpartisan service organization.

But he also has ties to three Republican presidential hopefuls: Vivek Ramaswamy, Chris Christie, and Ron DeSantis. That’s led to some concerns that this might be an end-around other Republicans use in an attempt to defeat the frontrunner. Both Ramaswamy and DeSantis spokesmen denied having anything to do with the legal challenges. Christie hasn’t yet commented.

The eligibility question is most likely heading to the Supreme Court for a ruling.
