A new video shared by the Wagner Group is fueling conspiracies that Yevgeny Prigozhin is still alive.
In the video, the Russian mercenary leader brags about surviving assassination attempts, which he refers to as “liquidation.” He identifies it as a weekend in the second half of August 2023 and says he’s in Africa.
Those clues suggest the clip was shot on either Aug. 19 or 20. According to Russia, the warlord was killed on Aug. 23 in a fiery plane crash while on the way to St. Petersburg.
One of the group’s Telegram channels published the video Thursday without additional comment. This has fueled conspiracists who believe Prigozhin placed a body-double on the plane.
This includes a prominent Russian scholar, who claimed last week that Russian President Vladimir Putin is knowingly lying about the mercenary chief’s demise.
