The five-month-long Hollywood writers’ strike is over.

Wednesday morning, board members of the Writers Guild of America approved a tentative deal with producers that offers writers some protection against competing with AI. Guild members still have to ratify the three-year contract, but leaders are giving the go-ahead to resume work in the meantime.

Unfortunately, the entertainment industry is still paralyzed until producers also reach a deal with actors. And it’s not just movies and TV; the union may soon escalate its strike to include 10 of the nation’s biggest video game companies as well. Video game voice actors have already been working without a contract for nearly a year.

Actors want an 11% wage increase. But, like the writers, they also want protections from AI, which could be used to replace their voices.
