The head of the U.S. Border Patrol is expressing his frustration over the use of border personnel.
Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens recently told ABC News’ “This Week” program that his 19,000 agents are being diverted to process incoming illegal border crossers instead of patrolling for drugs and cartel activity.
Owens remarked that the current state of the border is “as bad” as he has ever witnessed. But he also accused the cartels of using the influx of illegal border crossings to their advantage.
Coming off of Owens’ remarks, a recent example of violence has surfaced with reports showing a Border Patrol agent attacked by a migrant cartel informer.
Photos of a bloodied Border Patrol officer shared by his wife, former Texas Rep. Mayra Flores, showcase the dangers of these cartels. Flores wrote in an Instagram post that, “The suspect was labeled a rat by the cartels and fought against the agent until the backup arrived.”
A subsequent photo shared by Flores shows the suspect with the words “X Rata” marked on his forehead.
Meanwhile, Texas Republicans are taking action to address a new problem concerning the crisis – housing developments being taken over by illegal immigrants.
The Republican Party of Texas unanimously passed a resolution calling for Gov. Greg Abbott to convene a special legislative session to address Colony Ridge. FISM News previously reported on Colony Ridge, which is a housing development outside of Houston that has become a living space for many illegal immigrants.
The resolution also calls for Attorney General Ken Paxton to open “a full investigation into the development activities of Colony Ridge.”
Finally, the crisis continues to affect non-border cities, too. New York has been crushed under the weight of asylum seekers sent by Republican governors, and the pressure is proving to be too much.
On Monday, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul called in an additional 150 National Guard members to aid in the crisis. New York now has 2,200 active National Guard members working on this issue.
