A New York Times analysis indicates abortions rose in the first half of this year compared to 2020.
It’s a major discouragement to the pro-life movement following the overturning of Roe v. Wade last year. The Times report cites a rise in abortion pill access via telehealth and a growing number of women traveling to states with loose abortion restrictions as reasons for the rise.
The data comes from the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute and shows roughly 511,000 abortions across 36 states during the first half of 2023 – that’s around 46,000 more abortions than those seen in all 50 states in the first 6 months of 2020.
Most of the abortions occurred in highly populated states like California, Florida, Illinois and New York.
