On Wednesday, a breakthrough emerged in the ongoing legal battle involving former NFL player Michael Oher and the family depicted in the blockbuster movie “The Blind Side.”
In a new legal filing, Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy petitioned the court to end the long standing-conservatorship they held over Oher. Earlier this week, Oher had filed a petition to have the conservatorship ended, alleging that the Tuohy family had used him for financial gain.
The Tuohy family has since dismissed his accusations and argued that all profits made by the movie were split equally among the members, including Oher, with whom they have been estranged for almost a decade.
The Tuohy’s also published a written statement earlier this week in which they accused Oher of threatening to plant a negative story against them unless they paid him $ 15 million.
The family has since characterized Oher’s accusations as a shakedown attempt.
Oher played 8 seasons in the NFL and won a Super Bowl with the Baltimore Ravens at the end of the 2012 season. He left the league in 2016 following a slew of injuries.
