Former President Donald Trump pleaded not guilty Thursday to four charges surrounding his claims that the 2020 election was stolen. Outside the courthouse, Trump said it was a “very sad day for America.”
The former president faces three counts of criminal conspiracy and one count of obstruction of an official proceeding. If convicted on all four accounts, Trump could face up to 55 years in prison.
Before the court appearance, the former president took to Truth Social to say “this indictment is all about election interference.”
Trump now faces charges in three different cases. In spite of this, he is still the clear frontrunner for the GOP nomination, with a 20-point lead in all major polls. His next hearing date for this case is Aug. 28.
