Citizens of the Big Apple were shocked to discover that their city was the center of a “giveaway” which quickly devolved into a riot on Friday in the afternoon.

The “giveaway” was hosted by social media influencer Kai Cenat, a YouTube and Twitch streamer with millions of followers on each platform. He told fans that he was hosting the event as an appreciation for their support, and that he would hand out items such as gift cards and even PlayStation 5 consoles.

The event was to happen at 4 p.m. at Manhattan Park, but before then a huge crowd of mostly teenagers arrived and began to get unruly. Reports say the crowd was flinging bottles and chairs, climbing on top of cars, and shooting fireworks.

Police eventually evacuated Cenat and began to quell the violence. Sixty-five people were arrested, and several police officers and civilians were injured.

NYPD Chief Jeffrey Maddrey spoke on what he saw during the chaos. Mayor Eric Adams even commented on the issues, believing there may have been other sources of aggravation while warning about the dangers of being “raised by social media.”

Cenat has since been issued charges of inciting a riot and unlawful assembly.

FLOODS STRIKE ALASKA

Now let’s go Northwest to Alaska, where the state was not only the site of a nearby Chinese/Russian naval drill but of dangerous flooding.

Record flooding struck the Alaskan capital of Juneau on Saturday following the outburst of a glacial dam, prompting some evacuations.

The National Weather Service reported that Mendenhall Lake broke a water-level record set back in 2016. Meanwhile, trees and even some houses were swept into the nearby Mendenhall River. Though water levels receded by Sunday, a flood warning remained in effect until 10 a.m.

As of this writing, there have been no reports of loss of life.

CALIFORNIA AIR COLLISION

Moving south down to California, another natural disaster led to a mid-air collision on Sunday. Two firefighting helicopters crashed into one another while  attempting to quell a blaze in Riverside County collided, resulting in the unfortunate deaths of three people.

The collision took place at around 7:20 p.m. on Sunday night. Federal authorities have since announced an investigation into the cause of the fatal crash.
