We have an update on U.S. soldier Travis King, who bolted across the North Korean border last month.
The Korean Central News Agency confirmed Wednesday that King is being detained in the country, but claimed his reasons for being there are his own. The agency asserts that King entered the country after becoming disillusioned with the inequality of American society.
“King harbored ill feelings against inhuman mistreatment and racial discrimination within the US army,” the agency reports.
But back here in the states, former CIA analyst Soo Kim says, “this is 100 percent North Korean propaganda in its element. King has no sway in how North Korea chooses to cast its narrative.” The Pentagon is working to bring King back to the states, but says his fate “rests in North Korea’s hands.”
