We officially have our first dropout in the GOP primary race. Miami Mayor Francis Suarez is suspending his campaign after failing to qualify for last week’s debate.
Suarez entered the race as a long shot candidate in June. As a Cuban American, the 45-year-old hoped to run a youthful, cross-cultural campaign, but failed to gain any traction, most polls leaving him near the bottom of the pack.
Suarez suggested earlier this month that if he didn’t qualify for the first debate he’d drop out, saying, “I don’t think candidates should just sort of linger around if they don’t have a credible path.”
