In Hawaii, state and local officials are responding to accusations of mismanagement in the wake of a deadly wildfire in Maui.

A press conference with officials became heated at several points as Hawaii Gov. Josh Green responded to accusations that the government was hiding information.

Authorities also addressed concerns that not enough was done to protect residents from the deadly wildfire, including sounding the tsunami siren to warn residents. Officials claimed that fears of driving residents inland, towards the wildfire, kept them from using the siren.

Officials confirmed that the death toll rose again this week to 111 victims. However, given that still around 1,000 individuals remain unaccounted for, officials believe the death toll will continue to rise.

Also on Wednesday, the White House confirmed that President Biden and the first lady will travel to Maui to visit victims. The first couple is reportedly set to travel there on Monday.
