Nearly 126 million people in at least 17 states were under heat alerts as of Wednesday, all thanks to an ongoing heat dome.
The Weather Channel’s Stephanie Abrams says humidity is making the already high temperatures unbearable.
The National Weather Service says most of the U.S. is facing “brutal humidity levels” – driving heat indices to 120 degrees in some places.
Meanwhile, the heatwave is breaking hundreds of records. On Tuesday, Iowa’s Sioux City broke a 109-year-old record high when temperatures hit 101 degrees Fahrenheit.
They set a new heat index record the day before with a real-feel temperature of 122 degrees.
Austin, Texas, is continuing its longest streak of triple-digit heat, with Wednesday being the city’s 45th consecutive day in the 100s.
