Some major updates happened over the weekend in Hunter Biden’s investigation.

Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss said on Friday that the president’s son may be heading toward a criminal trial. And Hunter’s legal counsel confirmed Sunday in a court filing that prosecutors reneged upon a previously agreed-upon plea deal.

Meanwhile, Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Weiss as special counsel in the ongoing investigation on Friday. Garland says the prosecutor asked for the authority earlier this week.

Democrats claim the appointment proves what Weiss has said all along, that he has always held the authority to bring any charges in any state.

Two senior IRS agents, however, have testified that the Justice Department blocked the attorney from bringing charges against Hunter in California and Washington, D.C.

But Congressman Dan Goldman, a Democrat, did say that Hunter shouldn’t be protected from criminal charges.

Meanwhile, Republican Sen. Ted Cruz slammed Garland’s decision as “camouflage and cover-up.”
