Two previously expelled Tennessee state lawmakers reclaimed their legislative seats Thursday.
Representatives Justin Pearson and Justin Jones were expelled from the state legislature for their involvement in a gun control protest on the House floor.
Jones and Pearson led chants through a megaphone during a legislative session in violation of decorum rules. The GOP-controlled House voted to remove them, saying they intentionally brought “disorder and dishonor to the House of Representatives.”
The two Democrats were reinstated shortly afterward on an interim basis, but officially won their seats back Thursday after a special election.
Both men took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to celebrate their returns. Pearson wrote, “the final results confirm that the voice of District 86 will not be silenced.”
