Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis plans to make the economy a major leg of his presidential campaign.

Speaking Monday in Rochester, New Hampshire, DeSantis unveiled his “Declaration of Economic Independence,” a 10-point policy agenda.

As governor, DeSantis has overseen what CNBC named the best economy in the nation. Now he hopes to mirror that success on the national level.

The plan aims to decouple the U.S. from what DeSantis calls its “abusive relationship” with China. It also prioritizes American energy independence, cracks down ESG and corporate bailouts, and seeks to rein in government spending.

His announcement comes as a new Rasmussen poll found more than half of Americans say the economy has gotten worse this year. Ninety-three percent of respondents say the economy will be important in the 2024 election.
