Less than a week after Russian and Chinese ships were spotted near Alaska a Chinese military expert is saying the U.S. should expect more drills in the near future. Fu Qianshao told China’s Global Times, “The Americans should get used to it.”
China’s weekend exercises near the Aleutian Islands prompted the U.S. Navy to guide the ships away. Qianshao says America’s actions were hypocritical.
The US should not forget that it frequently sends warships and warplanes to other countries’ doorsteps for so-called freedom of navigation operations, including to the South China Sea and the Taiwan Straits.
The Pentagon confirmed the ships were in “international waters” and did not pose a threat. Regardless, Alaska Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan called the drills signs of “a new era of authoritarian aggression led by the dictators in Beijing and Moscow.”
