President Joe Biden has requested an additional $24 billion for Ukraine, which is expected to fuel internal tension among Republicans.
The request was sent in a letter to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), who has already encountered major opposition from his side of the aisle after his debt deal with Biden. The same dissidents are already pushing back on this supplemental request.
But even some GOP members who have supported Ukrainian aid in the past are hesitant.
“Ukraine’s independence is in our national interest, but I want the details…before I make a decision.,” said Rep. Don Bacon (R-Neb.), who had previously backed Ukraine funding.
Meanwhile, the funding request is six times the amount of money the Biden administration is funneling to the border and drug crisis. This comes as Fox News reports that mass illegal crossings have surged at the border, with most sectors at overcapacity.
