A Nigerian Catholic bishop criticized his government and the international community for standing by as the genocidal killings of Christians continues in his country.

According to Bishop Winfred Anagbe’s written testimony at a U.S. congressional subcommittee hearing Tuesday, Islamic militant destruction has killed thousands and displaced millions across Benue State. The bishop wrote that since 2014, he has been required to close 14 parishes because of Islamic danger.

Anagbe lamented that the Nigerian government hasn’t shown any serious concerns over these killings and called the inaction a “calculated genocide.” But he also called out international leaders for staying silent on the matter.
