On Thursday, federal prosecutors lodged additional charges of illegally retaining classified documents against former President Donald Trump.

The charges reportedly stem from a conversation the former president had at his club in Bedminster, New Jersey. According to prosecutors, Trump told a reporter during an interview about plans presented to him by the Pentagon when he was president.

Prosecutors also charged Trump aide Walt Nauta as well as Mar-a-Lago maintenance worker Carlos de Oliveira with new counts of obstruction of justice.

According to recent polls from Rasmussen, the majority of Americans do not believe that additional charges against the former president will damage his campaign.

In a response to the indictment, the Trump campaign said in a statement “this is nothing more than a continued desperate and flailing attempt by the Biden Crime Family and their Department of Justice to harass President Trump and those around him.”

Republican lawmakers have since come out in support of the former president while Democrats have mostly welcomed the new charges.
