Hunter Biden’s plea deal on tax and gun charges unraveled in a Delaware courtroom Wednesday. Hunter pleaded not guilty after U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika said she would not rubber-stamp a plea deal after learning from prosecutors that Hunter is still under criminal investigation.

Prosecutors gave little details on the investigation other than saying it could result in new charges. Under the deal, Hunter would avoid jail time for pleading guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges. He would also enter a diversion program for a felony gun charge.

Noreika put off issuing a ruling until receiving more briefings from both sides on the matter. Defense attorney Chris Clark called the plea deal “null and void” after learning that new charges could be on the table.  Noreika ordered Hunter to find a job and barred him from using drugs and alcohol as part of his release conditions.
