An illegal Chinese-linked lab discovered in California housed at least 20 potentially infectious diseases.

The lab was first discovered back in March. Inside, federal and local investigators discovered nearly 1,000 mice that were genetically altered to carry COVID-19.

Other diseases found in the lab include HIV, hepatitis, and herpes. There were also 35 freezers and refrigerators holding human fluid samples.

Investigators identified the Nevada company Prestige BioTech as being responsible for the facility. But the company doesn’t have a license to operate in California.

The company’s President, Xiuquin Yao, says the warehouse contained assets they inherited from the now-defunct Universal Meditech Inc.

According to NBC, officials were unable to find a California address for either company. According to court documents, “other addresses provided for identified authorized agents were either empty offices or addresses in China that could not be verified.”

A criminal investigation is ongoing.
