Multiple federal agencies are rushing to protect their information after they were compromised by a cyber attack.

A spokesman for the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, or CISA, announced that a hacking group accessed troves of sensitive data through a file-transfer portal called MOVEit, which is used by both private and government agencies to share large files over the internet.

It’s confirmed that the Department of Energy was hit by the attack, but it is not yet known what other agencies were compromised.

But the U.S. wasn’t the only victim as the BBC, British Airways, and Nova Scotia’s governments were also targeted.

This comes just days after CISA director Jen Easterly warned that the Chinese government is heavily investing in ways to sabotage U.S. infrastructure. But a Russian cyber gang is believed to be behind the attack.
