You may have noticed a smoky sky outside your window Wednesday, and that’s because 15 states are under air-quality alerts as smoke from Canadian wildfires are drifting south.
The alert ranges from Vermont to South Carolina, and even in some parts of the Midwest. Health authorities are warning of fine matter in the atmosphere that could exceed unhealthy levels.
The smoke comes as Canada is on track for its worst wildfire season ever.
Currently there are more than 400 active wildfires in the country, with over half being deemed out of control. About 26,000 Canadians are currently under evacuation orders.
